Description

Dunmore 18th century shoes trimmed in white are the ideal materials, silhouette, and heel to pair with your late 18th-century gown, from the Revolutionary War to the French Revolution.

Developed with input from Colonial Williamsburg, Dunmore is accurate for c. 1770 - 1790s, with a 2 inch / 5.08 cm Italian heel crafted after an extant shoe, a tapered toe and soft toe box, and latchet closure.

We've trimmed the edges with white twill tape and covered our custom-made Italian heels in white leather, just like originals. Inside you'll find linen lining with our historic trades stamp. These are truly special, exquisite shoes available in this colorway for a limited time only.

Dunmores do not come with 18th-century shoe buckles. You may find our complete selection of 18th-century shoe buckles in the accessories section. Please see our page on how to fit your buckles, or watch our shoe buckle fitting video for more information.

Beautiful, narrow toe

These shoes are gorgeous. I’ve worn them twice now, the first time they gave my toes blisters, so I stretched them out. The second time they felt a lot more comfortable but walking in them takes some getting used to, albeit I don’t wear heels very often.

Lots of compliments

This was my very first pair of A.D. shoes. I got the lilac color and they are so beautiful and I’ve gotten so many compliments on my especially with the sparkly buckles. One issue I have is that they have a very pointy toe and they should’ve known better and upsized, but I didn’t and tried to make them work. In hindsight, I really should have just gone up to the size 12. Especially with stockings that are going to use up a little bit of extra room. These are pretty Pinchy. Other reviewers say that they run true to size, but in my opinion, these run small. Hopefully they will stretch over time but I would recommend if pointy shoes are usually not your jam that you size up. 🥰

How shoes with more pointed toe boxes fit is pretty dependent on your individual toe shape! If you find that you usually need to go a half-size up in pointy-toed, standard width women's heels, then you'll most likely need to with the Dunmores as well.

Beautiful, not pastel

First and foremost I love them, absolutely beautiful. If you are looking for pastel lavender these aren't that but if you want a little more midtone than light lavender they're great. They perfectly match the couple of things I bought them to go with and will do well for spring outfits as well as during Halloween.

Also on sizing, if you need more space in the toebox or sometimes find AD shoes small, go a half size up. I got the green ones like a year ago in my usual size and they were too small so I went up a half size this time and they fit perfectly. The arch support also feels a little further back than usual which isn't an issue for my flat feet but you may want to consider adding an insole if you need arch support.

Incredible Once Again!

These shoes are so amazingly comfy that after an 8 hour shift constantly on my feet in my Dr Martens in so much pain by the time I got home, I tried these on and my pain went away. It was like standing in a cloud it felt SO nice.

I have high arches so typically this means I can't wear ballet style flats or anything that has that curve over the back of the heel, because usually anything that cups my heel at that 3-inch marker rubs me raw, which I was worried about with these, and.... NOT AN ISSUE! They do huh your heel but in a soft and supple way that gives so as you move your foot the shoe moves with you instead of staying stagnant and cutting into your skin.

I'm already so in love with these I can't wait to wear them out, probably this weekend! Thank you so much American Duchess!!!

A little small but otherwise beautiful

First things first: these run about a half size small. I own a fair amount of AD shoes in 6.5 and these are significantly smaller than usual not just in width but in length. So I would definitely suggest going a half size up from your normal AD size! Especially if you want to wear them with stockings and if you're planning to put an orthopedic insert in or wearing very thick socks potentially consider a full size up.

Otherwise these are absolutely beautiful, the green is a little less in your face bright than what shows on my monitor but they perfectly match the dress and skirt I planned to wear them with so I am pleased on that front.

Hi V! We're thrilled you're enjoying your Dunmores! We're sorry that they weren't the perfect fit. We would like to note one thing for future customers- out of hundreds of pairs sold from this batch, our records show fewer than 2% being returned for being too small, which is really great and indicates they run true to size for most foot types! We wouldn't recommend most folks size up unless they need to fit in orthotics or have a wide foot. We're always happy to chat fit and help with questions about stretching, our customer service team is standing by!
