Based on the popular “flatties” styles of the 1950s, Claud features a beautifully shaped vamp, darling pointed tongue, and a rounded toe. Claud’s uppers are made from smooth leather, with suede trim and a suede cord bow. The strap over the instep fastens with an adjustable, quick-release buckle- no fiddly fastenings here! Claud boasts our custom 0.5”/1.27 cm, tried-and-true common-sense heel, which will keep your feet stylish for miles. These flats are perfect for vintage silhouettes and contemporary ensembles alike!

Really cute and comfortable but weird buckles

Just got these for myself as an early birthday present, and I was pleasantly surprised by how soft and comfy they are to wear: this kind of material can sometimes be a bit too harsh for my sensitive feet, but not in this case. I will say the buckles are a bit odd / unintuitive--not sure if this is an old-school style, but they're a bit awkward to fasten. So if you have any kind of dexterity issues or arthritis, you may want to pass on these.

Hi Helen,

The buckles on the Claud are actually special buckles specifically designed for disability. They may be a bit weird to set the first time, but after the traditional buckle portion is set to your ideal size the first time, they are easier to put on - you just loop the metal 'S' around the body of the traditional buckle and you're set!

So wonderful!

I saw Jessica on YouTube talking about her collaboration with American Dutchess. I decided to buy a pair. I love them so much! They are comfortable, cute, and well made. They are true to size. I have narrow feet and the regular worked great. At first my big toe did feel a tad tight at the top, but the leather streched and it is no longer an issue. I wish the shoes came in even more colors. I also would love some flats without bows and maybe jewel buckle of some sort.

Amazing

This is my first pair of American Duchess shoes. I go between 8.5 and 9. I originally ordered a 9 and exchanged them because they were slightly big. The exchange process was very easy and seamless, and the 8.5s fit perfectly. They’re very comfortable and add so much flair to an otherwise simple outfit. I’ve felt like a queen in them at work. It was a very dangerous purchase because now I want every shoe in every color. This will not be my last purchase.

Comfort and beauty for those who prefer flats.

I have the black and the Cordovan versions of these and I'm happy to find comfortable flat-soled shoes which are also pretty, despite the prevailing dogma whereby one must choose between beauty and comfort. Piffle! Codswallop! We can and should have both, I say. (Some people can be comfortable in high heels; thanks for also remembering those of us who haven't found that possibility but still appreciate Pretty Things. And feel free to make more pretty flatties!)

Pretty flatties unite comfort and beauty!

Always happy to find something pretty for those of us who can't be arsed with high heels. :) Often in shoe shops I find two versions of the same shoe model: the graceful one, which has a high heel, and the flat-heeled one which is rendered unnecessarily clunky and, to my perception, ugly, in deference to the ethos whereby comfortable practicality and beauty are incompatible. Not saying that some people can't be comfortable in high heels; I, however, am not one of those people. Thanks for catering to us! More to come, perhaps? Let's hear it for the pretty flatties! We are here, we have an aesthetic sense, we like Oxford commas, and sometimes, we walk. (A lot.) PS I have the black and the Cordovan version of these. Customer service was very kind by generating a coupon for me when there was a computery kerfuffle which caused me to miss a deadline for a discount. Thanks, o reasonable ones!
