Beautiful and elegant

I normally wear 10.5, I ordered 10.5, and it fit great. Even in a relatively larger size, the shoe looks elegant and proportional, snd the heel shape makes it comfortable to wear. A button hook is a must-have for fastening the buttons.

Pretty design, defective button

The shoes are beautiful and comfortable. The only problem is wearing them, which is hard because the buttons ***keep. breaking. off.*** while I'm walking in them.

I bought a shoe button hook tool just to enjoy these shoes. I have been to the shoe repair store 4 times for this problem with these shoes--but I've only worn them 5 times. Today, *both* buttons snapped off the same day while walking. I'm so frustrated. My arch is low.

I bought these shoes back in March of this year, so it's too late to return them. They're so pretty and comfortable that I'm dying to make these shoes work, but so far they're just not. :/ I think my pair may be defective.

We're so sorry you're having issues with your Maes and we're happy to chat futher to find a solution! The fact that they continue to come off after repair indicates the problem isn't a defect in the shoe; it means there's a fit issue or other force causing the problem. Moving the button closer to the edge of the shoe to give more room and decrease tension could be beneficial. You can have the button moved by your cobbler or we have instructions on moving the buttons yourself here: https://www.americanduchess.com/pages/how-to-move-shoe-boot-buttons
Please feel free to reach out to our team at info@americanduchess.com so we can find out more and explore the issue in more detail!

great shoes for that early 20th century look

I was a little nervous when I first saw them but once I tried them on and let my feet adjust they were really comfortable. I plan to wear them with some of my 1920s dresses. Can't wait to show them off.

Size down if you're not sure!

Normally I wear an 8.5, sometimes even a 9. I got these in an 8.5 and they are just *slightly* too large (an 8 may have been slightly too small), in a way that is just frustrating and I'm not quite sure what I'll do with them, as I've already worn them out. They fit very well except that my heel slips out with every step. I've also found the strap to be not tight enough, despite other reviews saying it's too tight. If it were tighter I don't think I would have the heel slippage issue, but looking at the shoe it is *not* an easy fix despite what the site may lead you to believe.

All that being said, they are fairly comfortable. If my heel didn't slip so much I would give them 5 stars.

Hi A.C.,

If your heel is slipping due the shoes being just a touch too long, you can use ball of foot cushions (available here: https://www.americanduchess.com/collections/shoe-inserts/products/foot-petals-tip-toes ) to keep your feet from slipping forward and causing the heel to slip. You can also move the button on the strap for a tighter fit, we have great instructions on how to do that here: https://www.americanduchess.com/pages/how-to-move-shoe-boot-buttons or you can take them in to your local cobbler to have the button moved professionally.

Ordered a size 8 in black. The photos don't do the very pretty combination of suede and leather justice. The heels are higher than the other style of AD shoes I have, but they are so well designed that the heel is still comfortable. I am a consistent size 8, medium width, with a somewhat lower arch. These shoes fit with room for my toes and I can fasten the straps. Make sure you have a shoe button hook to do this.
