Description

Alpen Retro Winter Booties are just the fashionable footwear you need for your winter vintage outfits. These booties are based on original Montgomery Ward overshoes, also known as galoshes, but are made as regular boots. We've stayed faithful to the velveteen upper and houndstooth lining, opting to use ethically sourced sheepskin trim and leather foxing and heel. These beautiful boots are cozy and practical for winter wear, with rubber soling.

I feel like Mrs Claus

Well-made item and comfortable to wear. I ordered a size 9 instead of my usual size 8 and they fit perfectly. I have a normal width foot, but wider spread toes; the larger size accommodates this we’ll. I have room to insert my custom orthotics too.

Cute AND Comfy!!

Just got my first pair during the Black Friday sale, and decided to wear them out for errands to break them in. They were IMMEDIATELY comfortable. I shopped for an hour in Target and they practically felt like sneakers on the first wear. I usually do not find heels comfy and need a platform for extended wear, but these shoes are a DREAM.
I was drawn to these shoes after being obsessed with the WW2 fur lined galoshes that Barbara Stanwick wears in Christmas In Connecticut, but I bought them in red since I have a similar shoe in black from Lulu Hun. This shoe is honestly way more comfy, and since its not suede I can wear it more.
tl;dr practically feel like sneakers, so beautiful, these will not be my last American Duchess shoes.

Very well made

I bought these in black. I run 8.5 to 9 depending on brand. 9 was too small and exchanged for 9.5. I get that trial wearing needs to be prestine in case of returning like I was privileged too. However, as I wasn't able to trial walk on tile or cement there are some things I would have liked to have known for better fit and comfort. These balance extremely well for walking. On carpet, no issues but on hard surfaces there are issues. It might be the way I walk on hard surfaces like tile or cement but my foot moves more into the tie box smoothing toes and it gives me boot bite. I also really feel the hard surfaces under my very thin feet. I would have prefer to have known to size up a whole size for thick socks, any sort of foot padding or orthotics. The laces are very handy for customizing the fit at the ankle.

2nd Winter with my boots!

~Santa~ gifted this pair of booties to me last Christmas. And I’ve cherished them since!
I am so grateful these are made in half sizes too, I often have to deal with a squishy 10 or a roomy 11. So it’s always a relief to have a 10.5! I wish these were in more colors that I could incorporate into my wardrobe (an olive/ivory trim, or full chocolate brown shoe+trim anyone?).
I can’t believe how comfortable they are as well, truly a testament to good craftsmanship as I’ve walked for hours in these back to back and have no foot pain or discomfort.
Also note: I applied the water resistant spray before first wear and I’m happy to report they returned to virtually the same color after drying.

And American Duchess team, if you read this, please consider the chocolate brown and/or olive/ivory colors in the future!
