It's spooky season, and to celebrate we have some enchanting shoes for you! This collection is definitely aesthetic, vibing strong in the 1920s with a dash of gothic goodness. Satins, patents, and luscious leathers with broguing, cutouts, and fancy stitching...plus a variety of shapes and heel heights, something for all. Read on to learn a little more about each of these new shoes. But first...
Parker
Sometimes when I come across a vintage shoe design in an old catalog or magazine it just stops me dead. Parker was just such a design because it really seems so modern! The 1920s fascination with the macabre is very apparent with a rather literal "spiderweb" shoe. I just couldn't resist.
The originals were advertised as patent leather with satin bows on "military" heels. It's incredible to also find a surviving pair of these shoes to compare the illustration with the final product, and use both to inform our reproduction.
The Parker has a new last with a round toe and new Cuban heel topping out at 2 inches / 5 cm. We've used glace calf, which is the closest leather we've found to authentic vintage patent leather. Parkers look amazing in black, and we also have them in purple (yes!), dark glassy green, and deep merlot red. Don't care for the shiny patent finish? De-shine them to a beautiful satin finish by painting them with Angelus Acrylic Finisher in Satin.
Wednesday
Another 1920s design, these low mary jane type day shoes were worn by both girls and women. There were myriad designs with decorative stitching, cutouts, broguing, perforation, button or buckle straps, you name it. We went with a simple designs based on an original catalog page, and influenced by several originals in the AD archive, and many other advertisements.
We've named this style after Wednesday Addams, as it certainly seems like a shoe of her style. As such, these flats are ideal for gothy daywear, gothic Lolita, academia and cottage core. They're for all-day wear, with the adjustable center-buckle strap, welted sole, 0.75 inch / 2 cm common sense heel, and relaxed fit, between a B and C width.
The Wednesdays are ideal in black, but we also have dark green, merlot red, and navy blue. These are done in satin-finish leather, but if you want to add more shine to make them closer to patent, like many originals, paint the leather with Angelus Acrylic Finisher in High Gloss.
Lilith
Last, but not at all least, possibly the most beautiful vintage shoes we've ever offered. Liliths are quintessential 1920s flapper shoes in satin and metallic leather, closely based on an original in the Shoe Icons collection. The original shoe was in the most beautiful celadon green satin paired with metallic silver leather, and we've reproduced that colorway for Lilith along with five others.
The Liliths are both pretty (SO pretty!) and practical - they're made on the same last and heel as Hazels and Memes - an almond toe and 2.5 in / 6.3 cm balanced Spanish heel. These are a t-strap d'orsay with open sides. They buckle with a little rhinestone buckle for extra pizzaz. If you're looking for a dance shoe, be it for the Charleston or ballroom dancing, these are it!
And get a load of these colorways! You'll notice our collection wildcard, Lilith in copper and teal. Even if you have nothing to wear them with, you won't want to miss this limited edition color.
The Liliths are made in durable polyester satin, so they can be cleaned and will stand up to wear, but for extra protection, spritz them all over with Angelus Water & Stain Repellent.
There you have it! A glorious vintage collection for all you flappers and It Girls out there. Pre-order is open with a discount for each pair, and don't forget we have layaway!
